Join Active Minds and OCHC on Tuesday, February 25th at 7 pm in Covel Southbay Room as we present “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” a poignant and moving account of a boy who commits himself, voluntarily, to a psychiatric ward in hopes of treating his depression and suicidal ideation. This movie introduces the subjects of mental illness, suicide, depression, and hospitalization in ways that genuinely increase audiences’ understanding of what it’s like to struggle with mental illness.
The movie will help combat the stigma around mental illness as well as treatment for mental illness, encouraging students to seek help if they need it.
And because the protagonist, Craig, finds healing through art, we’ll also be making the “brain maps” he creates in the movie.
Additionally, we will have a panel discussion featuring students who are recovering from depression/mental illness. They will share what it’s like to struggle with suicidal thoughts, seek treatment, and balance mental health with college.
